Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Bands

Enhance Physiotherapy is known for its innovation and leading the region with the most up to date technology. In December we welcome our newest piece of rehab equipment – Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Bands. These will be a great addition to our rehabilitation gym.

Conventional strength training requires heavy loads to improve strength, body mass, and function. To achieve this, it is recommended we use 60-70% of our 1 repetition maximum. This can be unattainable or an increased risk for clients with a musculoskeletal impairment. Research has proven that BFR during light load training – 20-30% of 1 repetition maximum can produce significant gains in muscle strength. Put simply, BFR bands make lighter weights HARD!!! This means you can get a huge workout without overloading your joints.

BFR partially restricts blood flow into and out of the muscle. It creates lactic acid and stimulates muscle growth. It is currently used world-wide for conditions such as patella femoral joint syndrome, meniscal tears, ligamentous strains and post-operative rehabilitation.

Book a session with one of our physiotherapists to explain how BFR can help your recovery.
